Network Updates

Over the past few weeks, our team of engineers has been busy working on several exciting new features and network upgrades. We’re excited to introduce Media Edge caching, custom subdomains, and a new blazing-fast Media App. In addition, upgrades to the Media Guard software have been applied, speeding up synchronization with Solana’s Blockchain. We’ve also pushed minor upgrades to our load-balancing protocol, which dynamically rebalances load across all nodes based on end-user requests.

Media Edge Caching

‘Media Edge’ is a computer that exists at the logical extreme or “edge” of the network. Its primary purpose is to proxy and serve content as close as possible to a requesting client machine, thereby reducing latency and improving load times. When objects are requested, these computers cache them at the network’s edge. When subsequent requests come for the same material, the content is quickly delivered from the edge without downloading the data again from the origin. The result is the ability to experience low latency (key when streaming live video) and provide end-users with a better experience overall. This, without doubt, was one of the community’s most requested features, and we’re happy to announce it is now live.

Custom Sub Domains

After adding your resource to the network using the Media App, Media Edges will begin caching and serving its contents from a default CDN endpoint such as this example tsqspklpst.medianet.work. We’re excited to announce that you can now also use a secure subdomain you own as an alternative endpoint, like www.mediaserver.express. The process is simple, just add a resource to Media Network first. Then, create a CNAME DNS record (www.mediaserver.express) within your DNS provider, pointing to the given endpoint ‘target’ (tsqspklpst.medianet.work).

www.mediaserver.express. 300 IN CNAME tsqspklpst.medianet.work
After a few minutes, if everything is updated correctly, your subdomain will show a green dot next to it.

Media App Updates

We’ve updated the Media App software, making the interaction with the blockchain much faster, and optimizing encryption/decryption, which results in faster loading times overall. Other UX improvements include better styling for the resources and custom domain status for each one.

About Media Network

Media Network is a protocol that foregoes traditional centralized CDN approaches and opts for a self-governed, community-powered alternative. We’ve created a decentralized bandwidth market that enables anyone to hire or provide resources from the network as the demand for last-mile content delivery fluctuates.
