Development Update

Media Foundation

Media Network was born to help front-end teams succeed at scale. From the ideal non-KYC blockchain experience for DAOs and DeFi protocols to the best performance for your end-users via its worldwide Media Edge Network.

A great workflow is a means to an end: creating a delightful protocol that developers enjoy while removing the need of hoarding personal data and payment information that we’re used to with legacy “Web 2” CDN providers.

Delivering all this without sacrificing performance is the primary goal of the Media Foundation.

So what do we have in store this week?

  • Origin Path Support
  • Network Expansion
  • Improved handling of DDoS attacks and traffic spikes
  • Revamped Media App
  • Deprecated Legacy Network

Origin Path Support

We’re excited to announce that a highly requested feature is now available in production. If you want Media Network to request your content from a directory in your custom origin, just enter the full path when adding a resource.

In this example, we’re proxying the Uniswap Interface from our IPFS Gateway. Media dCDN is serving it with a custom domain name.

This new feature is an excellent complement to storage protocols such as IPFS, Arweave and many others. Now it is easier than ever to add a site/dApp stored on IPFS. Sharing or embedding a gateway URL with an /ipfs/HASH path is a thing of the past.

Media Network also works well for testing environments and becomes a “swiss knife” for developers. You can quickly add an insecure HTTP origin and then get an HTTPS-ready endpoint to embed in a secure site without dealing with any other tool.

In both cases, the protocol will cover all your SSL certificate needs, renewing them automatically for any custom CNAME added to the network.

Network Expansion

Media Network just got even more powerful. Due to incredible demand for the CDN service, we’re excited to introduce new locations, allowing you to serve up faster experiences to customers and visitors all over the world.

We’ve added ~80+ Gbps network capacity deploying new Media Edge nodes in the following cities: Sydney, Los Angeles, Phoenix, Miami.

Improved handling of large attacks and traffic spikes

In addition to an excellent developer experience and optimal end-user performance, customers are drawn to Media Network to stop worrying about scaling infrastructure and mitigating attacks.

On one hand, due to the increasing popularity of our service, we have upgraded our global network to automatically scale and manage large amounts of traffic, including unpredictable spikes.

On the other hand, as the number of sites we serve increases, so do the chances of malicious attacks — especially DDoS. We have made considerable improvements to our technology to stop them.

Revamped Media App

Today we’re excited to announce a wholly overhauled Media App with several improvements.

  • Further SPL wallet support includes Safepal, Coin98, and Slope, all with mobile support.
  • Graphical enhancements. New detailed instructions.
  • Several UX improvements such as origin field auto-completion (when pasting an origin, the app will automatically input the correct protocol/ports when available)
  • New ‘Labels’ feature for easier organization. These are stored on-chain!

Deprecated Legacy Network

We’ve deprecated support for old resources pointing to medianet.work and .medtv. Domains / HNS TLDs. Any previously created resources will not be accessible starting today. Please re-create them again using the Media App.

Wrapping it Up

We’re excited to have overhauled both the Media App and Media Edge infrastructure entirely and done so without disruption to our traffic. Media Network currently processes ~30 million requests every week, but now it does so much faster.

About Media Network

Media Network is a protocol that foregoes traditional centralized CDN approaches and opts for a self-governed, community-powered alternative. We’ve created a decentralized bandwidth market that enables anyone to hire or provide resources from the network as the demand for last-mile content delivery fluctuates.
